Seydia Adkins, MA

Public Health Program Liaison
City of Lubbock Health Department

Seydia Adkins is a Public Health Liaison for the City of Lubbock Health Department, a cooperative, change-agent working to promote health equity across the city by addressing Social Determinants of Health (SDoH). Seydia functions as the Community Engagement Manager for the LBK Community Network. She spends a lot of time meeting with and recruiting potential partners. In addition to supporting each partner through the on-boarding process, Seydia facilitates platform training, organizes small group meetings among Network Users, and created a newsletter in an effort to support and maintain the Network. The Network is a collaborative alliance of community-based organizations (CBO’s) who provide much needed health and social services and who are committed to working together more effectively to improve the lives and well-being of those they serve. Network partners use a simple-to-use collaborative, web-based platform to send, receive, track and respond to referrals electronically. Currently, the Network is comprised of 29 partner agencies, ranging from two major hospitals to non-profit organizations. The LBK Community Network was first launched in June 2020 to help address SDoH by enhancing the coordination of services between CBO’s in order to improve health outcomes and equity. Before joining the Health Department in January 2020, Seydia was employed by Lubbock Christian University (LCU) for 11 years as an academic accountability partner in which she worked with college students conditionally admitted to the University. She earned her Associate’s degree from Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Texas (1997), where she played basketball and earned 2nd Team All-conference honors her final year of play. She completed her undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University in Commerce, Texas (2006), majoring in Sociology with a Criminology emphasis, and a minor in Political Science. She later earned her Master’s degree in Counseling at Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, Texas (2011). She enjoys hiking, sports, reading, writing, and hanging out with family and friends. Seydia would like to write a book one day about life’s challenges, finding meaning in them, and living with purpose. She has two beautiful daughters, Sylvia and Sophia, and one, precious and equally beautiful granddaughter, LeiLani, and looks forward to meeting her second grandbaby soon.
